I am an Amsterdam based artist
Working with Oils, Acrylics, pastels and pen.
ABOUT MY WORK
I paint human figures by focusing on the torso, back or shoulder, leaving out the head as I find it only distracting. In doing so I reduce the pose to its essence. Muscle display, skin tone and shades give the figures tension.
My portraits are either commissioned or free style work, based upon images taken from thispersondoesnotexist.com. As these people are not real, they encourage me to make up a story around them with characters, emotions and a history.
During my time in London I started painting as an outlet next to my corporate jobs. I trained by attending life drawing classes and did several courses at London’s art schools. Back in The Netherlands I kept on painting and started drawing cartoons. My focus is on the human figure and portraits. I have a background in anthropology and psychology and human beings have always been a source of fascination to me.
